1. Preparing for the Boot CD

     Create a new file folder. For the following examples, we will assume that all files are on drive C. Name the folder "WindowsXP." Open the XP folder and create two new sub-folders. Name one folder "ServicePack2" and name the other folder "WindowsUpdates."

     Copy your Windows XP CD boot disk to the hard drive. To do this, go to "My Computer." Click on the CD drive that the Windows XP disk is in and drag the files over to the desktop. If prompted, tell the computer to copy everything.

     Download Windows XP Service Pack 2 Deployment Tools.

     Locate "C:\WindowsXP\ServicePack2\SUPPORT\TOOLS\deploy.cab." After you have found it, delete it.

     Copy the downloaded deployment tools to "C:\WindowsXP\ServicePack2\SUPPORT\TOOLS\."

     Rename the downloaded deployment tools file to "deploy.cab." So, it should look like this: "C:\WindowsXP\ServicePack2\SUPPORT\TOOLS\deploy.cab."

     Download "Windows XP Service Pack 2 Support Tools." Save it into the Windows Updates folder.

     Go to "Start" and then "Run." In the command line paste:
     C:\WindowsXP\WindowsUpdates\WindowsXP-KB838079-SupportTools-ENU.exe /C /T:C:\XP\SP2\Support\Tools

     Click "OK." When prompted, Click "Yes to All" to overwrite all files.

     Got to "Start" and then paste in the following:
     C:\WindowsXP\WindowsUpdates\WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe /integrate:C:\WindowsXP\ServicePack2\

     A box will appear telling you that installation was successful.

   Creating the Boot CD

     Open your burning software. For the purposes of this article, we will refer to Nero Burning Rom 6 and ISObuster softwares.

     Open ISObuster to create a boot image. Find the file "Microsoft Corporation.img" from your original Windows boot disk, right-click and tell it to extract. Rename it to "boot.ima" and put it into "C:\WindowsXP\WindowsUpdates\."

     Open Nero. Select a new CD compilation. Select "Boot" from the tabs. Select "C:\WindowsXP\WindowsUpdates\ boot.ima" for the image file. Click on "Enable Expert Settings" and make sure the selections are filled out as follows:

     Kind of emulation: No Emulation
     Boot Message: Nero Boot-Leader V6.0
     Load Segment: 0000
     Number of loaded sectors: 4

     Click on the ISO tab. Make sure you have the following selections inputed:

     Data Mode: Mode 1
     File System: ISO 9660 + Joilet
     File name length: Max. of 31 characters (Level 2)
     Character Set: ISO 9660
     Click on all selections under relax restrictions

     Click the "Label" tab: And click on the "Manual" button. Input these codes into both boxes: "VRMPFPP_EN." Input this for both ISO 9660 and Joilet. Click more labels. Make sure the boot disk says "MICROSOFT_CORPORATION" in both the ISO boxes for Publisher and Data Preparer. Joilet should say "Microsoft Corporation."

     Click the "Burn" tab. Check the "Write" button. Check the "Finalize CD" button. Make sure the "Write Method" is set to "disc-at-once." Select the "New" button. Then, go to the folder "C:\WindowsXP\ServicePack2." Select the entire folder and drag it into the panel for ISO compilation. Then select the button "Write CD." Now you tell it to burn.
